Children : Results
The diagram below shows how our children improve both their listening skills over time after receiving their cochlear implants.
 Most children reach identified targets within an expected time scale. Pre-implant the majority of children are not aware of environmental sounds. After 3 years implant use they are able to understand everyday phrases without lip-reading. However many children are eventually able to use the telephone.
Please note that the diagram shows the average performance of all the children who have been treated by us.
Before implant most children use pre-recognised spoken words. After about five years implant use they have speech that is intelligible to sensitive listeners. A number of our children do acquire speech that is intelligible to everyone. |
